                                        Thursday May 3:  Paint That Collage! 
                                                                               $130 + $20 materials fee

This class is based on Ann’s upcoming DVD! Students will learn to use found images and text gathered from a variety of sources to create lively and whimsical visual stories. Instructor will demonstrate her own methods of integrating pictures and words by applying fluid acrylics in transparent glazes and mediums. Plenty of hands-on experience, demonstrations, and valuable critiques on composition.

Student Supply List: 
--two color magazines on general topics
--found images and text for final mixed media collage
--one sheet (9 x 12 in.) strong construction paper in solid color
--pad 140lb cold-press watercolour paper (9x 12 in)
--bottle matte medium (liquid, not gel)
--1” flat nylon brush
--3/4” flat bristle brush
--Sharpie waterproof pens in brown and black
--glue stick
--scissors
--household sponge
--thick paper towels
--large yogurt pot for water
--vinyl or latex gloves

Materials fee includes: Set of five 1oz Golden Fluid Acrylics in the following colours: Paynes Grey, Titan Buff, Transparent Yellow Oxide, Transparent Red Iron Oxide, Quinacridone Crimson; two 1oz.jars of acrylic mediums; half sheet (22 x 15 in.) Fabriano 140lb watercolor paper for final project; rice paper; texture mediums, heavy-bodied acrylics, and Caran D’Ache Neocolor I wax oil crayons to try out.

    2:30  –   4:30 pm           Students hands-on mixed media collage using own imagery
    

                           Friday May 4:  Collaging with Words & Paint - Text & Texture 
                                                                                    $130 + $25 materials fee

Words come in many fascinating shapes, colors, and sizes. Learn to create word collages which have the appearance of illuminated manuscripts. You will explore layered painting techniques which add texture and mystery. Plenty of instructor demonstration and hands-on experience. Bring magazines, newspapers, and photocopied text in interesting styles or fonts.

Student Supply List:
--color magazine with a variety of text 
--photocopies of interesting printed and handwritten text
--some letter stencils & rubber stamps, if you have them
--small bottle of matte medium (liquid, not gel)
--glue stick
--1” flat nylon brush
--3/4” flat bristle brush
--Sharpie or Zig waterproof pens in brown and black
--scissors
--pad 140lb cold-press watercolor paper (9x 12 in)
--a few other papers (coffee paper, rice paper, stationery) suitable for writing on
--thick paper towels
--water pot (large yogurt size)
--household sponge
--Please bring vinyl or latex gloves to protect your skin from paints.

Materials fee includes: Set of six 1oz Golden Fluid Acrylics in the following colours: Paynes Grey, Titan Buff, Transparent Yellow Oxide, Transparent Red Iron Oxide, Quinacridone Crimson, Jenkins Green; two 1oz. jars of acrylic mediums; half sheet (22 x 15 in.) Fabriano 140lb watercolor paper for final project; single sheets of tracing paper, simulated parchment paper, writing paper, and several texture mediums, heavy-bodied acrylics and , and Caran D’Ache Neocolor I wax oil crayons to try out.

    9:45 – 10:30              Instructor demo: glazing over text with Golden Fluids.

  10:45 – 11:30              Hands on practice in applying transparent glazes over text, printed and handwritten – warm over cool, dark    
                                     over light, medium added. Application with brushes, sponge, fingers.
   11:30 – noon              Instructor demo Creating a palimpsest – blurring, altering,
obliterating text with paint and paper,                                                     overwriting with ink and oil pastel/crayons.

Sunday May 6th : Telling Your Family Story in Collage & Paint 
$130 + $20 materials fee

Any relative can be a 'character' in your story. In this class you will produce a lively painted collage from photo-copied family photos, and favorite words or sayings. Bring copies of family photos and other relevant images. Instructor will demonstrate techniques for integrating images and words, adding luminous color with transparent layers of acrylic paint.

Student Supply List: 
-- magazine(s) with pictures of people (anyone will do!)
-- black-and-white photocopies of family members, personal letters, favorite music, etc.
