Linnie Weiss
Centerville, Maryland
I was an emerging artist when I realized that
raising four kids, working, and trying to paint weren't
going to work. So I put aside my art for
thirty years. Two years ago, I discovered that acrylics could
be used with much the same kind of luminosity
obtainable with oil paints, and happily started on the
venture of discovery. In the process, I have
struggled with a choice between traditional representational
style ("real painting") and abstract
expression ( fun, but not "real art"). Well, thanks to two
excellent
teachers, Marie Linnekin and Ann Baldwin, I
finally have wrapped my head around the fact that "fun" can
be real, too, and that through abstraction, I
can really express what my mind sees -- actually, each painting
takes on a life of it's own, but my mind sees
something to start. I am excited about exploring materials and
methods. Primarily, I am interested in color
and texture and am really looking forward to finding out what
will come.
